PCC helps Ludford to improve road safety

A new state of the art sign funded by the PCC, is helping Ludford to tackle a speeding problem.

Ludford Parish Council highlighted their concerns about speeding through their village, and after speed monitoring was carried out by West Mercia Police the council applied to PCC John Campion’s dedicated road safety fund.

The council received £3,806 from the PCC’s fund for a high-tech vehicle activated sign that will be in operation along Sheet Road, an area identified by residents as a speeding hotspot.

The new sign will be a permanent fixture and provide a visible speed deterrent to motorists, as well as providing greater reassurance and an increased feeling of safety to residents.

Ludford Parish Council also provided £1,000 funding towards the purchase of the sign.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “Road safety is a concern I hear all too often from people across West Mercia. As Commissioner, I promised to help tackle the issue of speeding and work with communities to make our roads safer. The introduction of the sign in Ludford is a prime example of this commitment in action. I am pleased the Parish Council applied for funding I set aside each year solely to support local communities in tackling road safety issues, and I hope the sign reminds motorists to slow down and respect the speed limit.”

Cllr Imogen Liddle, Chair of Ludford Parish Council said "Following an approach by residents of the Sheet area regarding excessive speeds, Ludford Parish Council have worked closely with those residents and in conjunction with John Campion, Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia Police, have jointly financed the VAS sign for the benefit of the Parish."

Ludford Parish Council will collect data from the system for statistical purposes, details will be published on the website.
